 Course Description:
Join us as we use this 7th grade year to lay a foundation in preparing for high school English. Together as a class, we will analyze and annotate literature and identify various literary devices as we read 3 Classics, poetry, and drama. By the end of the year, students will be proficient in annotating poetry and identifying author’s purpose. There will be a heavy concentration on grammar concepts to improve communication skills in writing and speaking. Socratic discussions from the literature will bring insight and rich learning. Advancing from 6th grade English, our writing will dive deeper into Literary Analysis, where students will write essays of varying lengths. Students will also enjoy researching their dream job as they will be asked to conduct an interview and compose a final essay describing their endeavors for the future. Additionally, there will be opportunities to write descriptive and expository essays, and students will write a strong argumentative essay, incorporating text evidence with parenthetical citing. Writing with strong Christian character and integrity will be encouraged. Students will give occasional presentations to the class and will be expected to participate in class discussions.
