Biology is a firm prerequisite for this course. This class will also require writing proficiency for the case analyses students will complete. Students need to be mature enough to be exposed to real life crimes, comprehensively survey and analyze data, and draw conclusions from those analyses.

Curriculum: Master Books Introduction to Forensic Science Student Textbook (2023)

Materials Needed: Master Books Introduction to Forensic Science Student Textbook (2023), loose leaf paper,
and an at-home stapler.

Course Description: By studying forensics investigation steps and performing labs on related science basics, students will acquire a comprehensive background in forensics science, including learning about the many career opportunities in the field. Students will examine case studies of well-known past crimes, analyze the chain of events and evidence, and learn how the application of forensics science contributed to bringing the perpetrators to trial.  This class also provides an overview of the judicial system and how forensics specialists interact with different departments.  Students will perform labs, learn how forensic evidence is used in crime investigations, and write case analyses to synthesize the information. 

Important note for Parents: Because of the subject matter, the course content can be  graphic, dealing with real-life crimes, human depravity, death,  body decomposition, drugs, alcohol, gunshots, and other related topics. Please discuss as a family to determine that your student is emotionally and socially prepared to deal with these subjects before registering.

This course counts as 1 Science credit on a high school transcript, in addition to required sciences.
