Course Description: Health and Fitness is a continuation of the Health and Nutrition class offered in the fall although it can be a standalone health class as well. The differences between the two classes are while the Health and Nutrition class uses the Abeka text Health in Christian Perspective as the foundation and is more of a traditional health class, the Health and Fitness class dives deeper into nutrition utilizing current information from journals and articles. Additionally, students will participate in exercises ranging from how to effectively utilize walking as an excellent form of exercise to exercise specific clinics such as core training and how to perform push-ups properly. Students will also expand their palates by trying healthy foods such as kimchi and sauerkraut which are gut-friendly fermented foods and participate in a variety healthy food preparations such as “Salad in a Jar.” (**NOTE: The teacher, Amy Jo Oliver, is not only a certified secondary science teacher and former junior high coach, but also a certified NASM personal trainer and a certified Health and Wellness Coach through the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute. She is passionate about inspiring young people to take charge of their health so they can live healthier and happier.)
