I took four years of English, two years of Latin, and 3 years of creative writing with Mrs. Hamon Her classes were some of the best I’ve ever taken. She has a talent for keeping students engaged whether they are avid readers, so-called jocks, or STEM-focused students with no interest in English. Her teaching style is so vivid and welcoming that every student is able to participate and thrive. On top of the excellent classroom environment, her curriculum prepares students for college in a way that few other high school courses are. Her goal is not that your student passes a college English course; her goal is that your student excels in a college English course. She writes her own curriculum that even breaks down literary theory, a grad-school-level concept, in a way that high schoolers can learn and apply. After taking her classes, I achieved a perfect score on the ACT and SAT English sections! Over the years, I have watched students walk into her class tired and disinterested, then come to life throughout the period and end class hanging on her every word. The truth is that Mrs. Hamon cares about her students, and she wants them to succeed. Her dedication is what sets her apart.
